Since joining Adelphi in fall 2000 as dean of the School of Business and special assistant to the president for business development, Anthony Libertella has introduced new academic programs, increased enrollment, attracted top faculty, and expanded ties with the Long Island and metropolitan New York business communities.
Under Dr. Libertella's leadership, Adelphi University School of Business initiated its five-year review process for AACSB accreditation. Dr. Libertella also launched Adelphi's 18-month executive M.B.A. program, the GOAL M.B.A., and created the dean's speaker series and other programs to bring prominent executives to campus.
Before joining Adelphi, Dr. Libertella gained extensive experience in university strategic planning, organizational development, and change management through top academic and administrative positions, including executive vice president and chief operating officer at Dowling College and dean of Dowling College School of Business. He has also held dean positions at Iona College's Hagan School of Business and Mercy College. He was previously a practicing attorney specializing in corporate and franchise law.
A prolific scholar, Dr. Libertella is also active in the Long Island business community. He is the recipient of two business leadership awards from area industry associations, and received the Distinguished Public Service Award from Suffolk County Executive Robert Gaffney for his role in the economic development of Long Island. He is currently first vice president and board member for The Advancement for Commerce, Industry, and Technology, one of Long Island's largest industry networking organizations. He serves as vice president and a member of the board of directors for the Garden City Chamber of Commerce, the largest chamber in Nassau and Suffolk counties. He is also chairman of the board of advisers for the Long Island Development Corporation, one of the leading economic and technical assistance organizations for small businesses.
Dr. Libertella is widely published and served as editor-in-chief and managing editor of three academic journals: the
Northeast Journal of Legal Studies;
Corporate Governance: The International Journal of Effective Board Performance; and
International Journal of Value-Based Management. He recently co-authored
Higher Education in Crisis: The Corporate Eclipse of the University, a book which explores the possibilities and challenges faced by the university as it struggles to balance corporate realities with educational ideals.
Dr. Libertella earned his B.A. in history and political science from Iona College and won a four-year University Fellowship to Ohio State University where he obtained an M.A. and a Ph.D. in business and economic history. He also holds a J.D. from St. John's University School of Law.
