Tenth Annual Adelphi Research Conference

Conference, Event

Join us and Keynote Speaker Tyrone Hayes, Ph.D.

Adelphi University’s Tenth Annual Research Conference is evidence of the Adelphi University Community’s commitment to scholarship. The purpose of this conference is to offer both faculty and students a stage from which they can display their scholarship, but also to inspire those who wish to engage in research and scholarly explorations in the future.

We encourage participation from all disciplines, including the Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, Nursing, Humanities, and the Arts. Abstracts were due February 15, 2013.

Research Day 2012 Videos:

Writing an Abstract

Abstracts should not exceed 250 words. See examples (PDF)

Presentation Formats

Students can submit two types of presentations:

  1. An abstract to present a poster
  2. An abstract to present an oral presentation (typically, but not always, a Power Point presentation).

Please remember that this also includes creative works. Please choose carefully—once you indicate on the registration page what kind of presentation you would like to do, it cannot be changed. If you are unsure about which type of presentation to choose, please speak with your adviser.

Poster Presentation Format:
If you choose to present a poster, your project will be displayed on a 4′ x 6′ cork poster board OR on a foam tri-fold set up on a table. You should be available to discuss your poster with faculty and student reviewers, as well as other interested members of the Adelphi community, during the poster session on April 10, 2013 (10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.). However, you will only be required to stand by your poster for an allotted time during the poster session. Specifically, if accepted, each poster will be assigned a number; participants with odd-numbered posters must stay at their posters from 10:30-11:15 a.m.; participants with even-numbered posters must remain at their poster from 11:15 a.m.-12:00 p.m.; and all participants must be at their posters from 12:00-12:30 p.m.

Posters should be made 3 x 4 feet (36″ x 48″), and can be created in Power Point or another software program. See examples.

Oral Presentation Format:
If you choose to do an oral presentation, you are required to give a 10-12 minute oral presentation. You will be assigned to a specific room in which to present, which will be listed in the conference program. All oral presentations will take place between 8:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.. Please plan on being in your assigned room for the entire hour and a half; there will be 3-6 speakers in each room.

Although not required, most presenters should plan on using Power Point for their presentations (only if appropriate). If you are unsure, please check with your adviser.
