B.S. Mathematics
B.A. Economics

As a junior majoring in both mathematics and economics, Kanishka Kelshikar '09 looks forward to graduating and working in Manhattan for an investment management firm.  "Ideal for me would be to work for a few years before going for a master’s degree," he says.

Mr. Kelshikar studied in India before receiving a merit scholarship to Adelphi University.  He credits the welcoming atmosphere and the small student to faculty ratio with persuading him to attend.  He credits many professors with creating an enjoyable learning experience for the students.  "Professor Bradley makes classes entertaining and interactive," he says.

Based on his high academic standing, Mr. Kelshikar was accepted into Adelphi’s Honors College.  He praises the faculty for their support of every student.  "Dean Richard Garner is an incredible individual," he says.  Mr. Kelshikar was amazed by Dean Garner’s ability to memorize each student’s first and last name, as well as the pronunciation, well before they sat down for class.  "I was very impressed," he says.

Mr. Kelshikar commends Honors College’s promotion of education through cultural arts, which allows students to purchase discounted tickets to various events.  Through this program, he attended Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony performed by the New York Philharmonic.  "They encourage you to take part in at least three such events a semester which opens new doors," he says.  For Mr. Kelshikar, it’s not just about academics.  "Both the Honors College and the School of Business promote all around student development," he says.

In addition to serving as a resident assistant in New Hall, Mr. Kelshikar is finding success at his internship at Investment Alternate Asset in Manhattan, where he works in investment management as head intern.  While juggling his studies and internship, Mr. Kelshikar is busy installing a chapter of Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business co-ed fraternity, under the guidance of Assistant Dean Brian Rothschild of the School of Business.

Last spring, Mr. Kelshikar attended the Careers on Wall Street event sponsored by the C.O.A.C.H. (Count on Alumni for Career Help) Program, which helps students gain valuable insight into the business world.  He met alumni and learned about various job opportunities available to business graduates.  Mr. Kelshikar remains in contact with alumni who continue to mentor him.

Mr. Kelshikar also participated in various workshops sponsored by the Office of Career Services, which helped him hone his resume writing and interviewing skills.  "They take an interest in you and try to prepare you for the real thing," he says.  Every department at Adelphi works together to provide a well-rounded academic experience for students, he says.

Mr. Kelshikar advises students entering the program to build a solid relationship with professors to learn from their valuable skills and experiences in the business world. "Opportunities within the program exist," he says. "It is up to you to seek them out."
