Assessment of Learning

Our foundation is our commitment to student learning.

This is the process by which we develop, evaluate, revise, and monitor the content and delivery of the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business curricula. It also refers to the way we assess student learning on a program-wide level. We establish a mastery level of:

  • The five Willumstad School of Business learning goals
  • The major content areas in the curriculum

We assess student learning each term on a designated Assessment Day, with selected Learning Goal Assessments administered in the undergraduate and MBA capstone courses. Our Learning Goal Assessments provide data that enable us to continually improve what we teach and how it’s taught. It ensures that our students achieve these five goals over the course of their studies. We emphasize:

  • Ethics
  • A global, multicultural perspective
  • Communication skills
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Leadership

Further, the Willumstad School of Business established a Learning Assessment Committee (LAC) in fall 2002. Since then, the LAC has been actively involved in systematically monitoring and evaluating the delivery of curricula in our undergraduate and graduate degree programs. LAC consists of faculty representatives from various disciplines in the School of Business and is chaired by a faculty member. The two department chairs and the Associate Dean of the School serve as ex-officio members of the LAC.
