The Robert B. Willumstad School of Business has launched a new MS in Professional Accounting program, adding to its offerings in undergraduate and graduate study in the field.

This new one-year graduate program is designed for those with undergraduate degrees in accounting—although it can be modified for those with other degrees—and it includes the region’s best preparation for the CPA exam: a full year of Becker Professional Education’s renowned on-campus CPA Exam Review course.

“Adelphi’s MS in Professional Accounting is more than just another graduate degree,” said Rajib Sanyal, PhD, dean of the Willumstad School. “It is the gold passport to a fulfilling career in the prestigious field of accounting.”

Dr. Sanyal noted that specialized master’s programs, such as those in accounting or supply chain management, have been growing in popularity. This reflects the need for deeper knowledge and understanding in many functional and applied fields that the traditional MBA is not designed to do. Firms of all sizes—from the Big Four and other international companies to small regional firms—are actively recruiting, with options in specialized areas including mergers and acquisitions, forensic accounting and litigation support.

“New areas of study are emerging, such as data analytics, and specialized graduate programs are well positioned to train talent in these disciplines,” Dr. Sanyal said. “The additional coursework in accounting ensures that students are well prepared for taking the exam and meeting the accounting needs of employers.”
