Business Plan Competition

Aspiring entrepreneurs can vie for cash prizes in our Shark Tank-style Business Plan Competition. All Adelphi students are eligible to submit innovative ideas for new business ventures in this annual contest sponsored by the School of Business.

Finalists will present their proposals to a panel of judges drawn from our faculty and business leaders, competing to win $11,000 in cash prizes: $5,000 for first prize, $3,000 for second, $2,000 for third and a $1,000 award for the best two-minute sales pitch.

Step 1: Submit a Preliminary Business Proposal

All contestants must submit a completed entry form, including a preliminary business proposal. In under 2,000 words, summarize your idea and tell us:

  • The name and nature of the proposed business
  • The skills you have to carry out your plan
  • An assessment of the market for your product or service
  • A review of potential competitors
  • A description of how the product or service will be created, distributed and sold
  • An exploration of potential legal issues
  • Sources of financing, projection of revenues and profits, and appeal to potential investors
  • Create a quick 2-3 minute video pitch

Step 2: Advance to the Final Round

A panel of judges composed of faculty members, Willumstad staff and business professionals will review the preliminary proposals for completeness, innovation and financial viability. They will narrow the field, inviting select participants to prepare full-fledged business plans.
