Each candidate for the ACHR must complete all course requirements with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Students who have taken MGT 561 or HRM 765 at Adelphi within the prior five years may apply the credits for those courses to fulfill the requirements for the ACHR. Students who have taken undergraduate courses in organizational behavior or organizational theory may request that the requirement for MGT 561 be substituted with either BUS 689 Persuasive Communications & Negotiation or MGT 791 Management Styles & Team Building in its place.
Joint Degrees with Other Adelphi Programs
Effective human resource management can enhance organizational performance across industries and professions. The School of Business and other professional schools at Adelphi have developed a variety of programs that allow students who are enrolled in other professional schools to acquire human resource expertise.
School of Business
The courses in the ACHR are also open to students enrolled in the MBA program at the School of Business; students who complete all five courses will receive a specialization in human resource management rather than a certificate.
A student with a bachelor’s degree, who completes the requirements for the Human Resource Management Certificate, may apply the certificate credits towards the MBA requirement (if the student is accepted in the Adelphi MBA program).
School of Social Work
Students currently enrolled in the MSW program who are interested in earning the ACHR must apply to the School of Business prior to beginning the courses. If accepted, they may apply the credits for SWK 722 (Organization Context for Professional Practice) to fulfill the MGT 561 requirement. Please consult the School of Social Work website for further information.
Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies
Students who are studying for the Master of Arts in General Psychology degree may take the five courses in Human Resource Management as part of their concentration in industrial-organizational psychology. Please consult the Derner Institute website for further information.
School of Nursing
Students who are studying for their Master of Science in Nursing Administration generally take two of the five courses required for the ACHR. Please consult the School of Nursing website for additional information. Upon completion of their requirements for the Master of Science degree, they may apply for admission for the ACHR and be awarded the certificate after completing the three required additional courses.
